Buick Electra 225

Sometimes you’re in the right place at the right time.

I’ve probably passed this Buick a few dozen times. Typically, it’s on the side of the house. Now that I think about it, I haven’t ever seen it move from that spot—until Thanksgiving.

On Thursday, I went by, and it appeared that the owner had moved it into the street so guests could park where it usually is. They must have been important people to get preferential parking like that!

This is a fourth-generation Buick Electra 225. I’m not sure of the exact year. Odds are, this car came out of Buick City in Flint, Michigan. I have a lot of personal connections to Buick City, but I’ll save that for another post.

Shortly before I shot this, it had started raining, which is why the car has an eerie glow, and you can see water droplets on the side and windows. I shot this with a 1970s Canon FD-mount lens adapted onto my digital camera.

Many old lenses don’t have as many aperture blades, so the out-of-focus ‘bokeh’ area comes out more hexagonal than circular. There’s a flare from the streetlight above the left side of the car, and that flare is a hexagon. A newer lens would most likely be more circular or oval-shaped. For some purposes, the hexagon is annoying, but I quite like it in this case!
