Cadillac Eldorado

I’ve been foiled by inconveniently placed street lights more than my fair share of times. It always seems like there’s a pole right in the wrong place—or at night, a light hitting the angle just enough to mess up a photo. However, sometimes, you get lucky, and a subject is isolated.

I found this Cadillac Eldorado last night on the east side of Detroit. I go down the road where I discovered it somewhat frequently, and it has never been there before. I believe it’s a ninth-generation Eldorado, complete with fender skirts. Odds are, this car rolled off the assembly line at the Clark Street Assembly (Detroit Cadillac) plant.

I shot this with a vintage Canon FD-mount lens, which I enjoy shooting at night. There’s something special about the clicks of the aperture dial, and I really dig how it renders colors.

During one of my exposures, a minivan whipped past. Usually, I wouldn’t say I like light trails in a photograph like this, but they perfectly lined up with the car.

If you could drive any Cadillac from any era, which one would you go with? I’d go with a 1992 Cadillac Brougham.
